Hazel Valentine

Hazel A. Long (Valentine), age 95, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died peacefully Sunday, May 24th at the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley, surrounded by family and friends. Hazel was born in Missouri Valley on August 29, 1919. She was the daughter of Glen and Louida Park. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School and married Willis Long on May 15, 1938. They farmed for many years near Desoto Bend, where she was a homemaker, wife and mother. To this marriage, four children were born: Sharon, Glen, Colleen and Ross. Willis passed away on April 1, 1973. She then worked at the DOT rest area along Interstate 480 near Underwood. In June of 1977 she met and married Edwin L. Valentine at the Little Brown Church in Vail, IA. They managed Parkside Apartments and built the first storage buildings in Blair. They then retired and enjoyed traveling in a camper and spending time with children. They returned to Missouri Valley and Edwin passed away in 2007. Hazel remained in Missouri Valley the rest of her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley and a member of the Eastern Star. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Willis and Edwin, sister: Evelyn Hirst and an infant daughter Carol. Survivors include her daughters: Sharon Stewart (Tom) and Colleen Stolz (Randy) of Missouri Valley, sons: Glen Long (Phyllis) of Blair, Ne and Ross Long (Arlene) of Marshalltown, IA, sister: Eleanor Freeman of Marshalltown, IA, and many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone for a time of lunch and fellowship to the Methodist Church after the committal service. In Loving Memory Of Hazel A.
