Howard leaves a big hole in many lives as one of Omaha’s most passionate supporters of local artists.. He and Joan Frost used to banter about which one first bought art from me in 1973(?) at my first exhibit here (Countryside Village Arts Festival.) He came to every exhibit after that over 30 years, including every display in the Florence Mill’s ArtLoft. Howard, thank you for your notes in colorfully decorated envelopes, many cookie gifts left on my desk, your humor, thoughtfulness, encouragement and gentle soul. May you find a glorious beach.

Howard was a gem. His delicious cookies and sense of humor, warmth and friendship will be missed. I loved getting cards from Howard. Always thoughtful and fun. His art collection amazing. It was a pleasure to serve on the Friends of Art board with Howard.

Howard adopted my family and never let a birthday or holiday go by without showing up with Tootsie Roll Pops, balloons, money hidden in box contraptions, a loaf of bread, cookies, a coconut pound cake or chocolate cheese cake. Always with a little story, a joke, a wild sweater. He was Uncle Howard to my kids, and he was extra kind and inclusive to my mom and even my grandmother when she was alive. He was bigger than life and the Rider Family will all miss him in our lives.
