Irene C Marks passed away on March 25, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. Irene was born in Grand Island, NE., in 1942 to parents, Frank and Opal Ripp. Irene lived with her family in Shelton, NE, until she moved to Omaha, NE, met her husband, Bennie J Marks, and started a family. Irene attended and graduated from The University of Nebraska Omaha with a degree in Interior Design. Outside of her career in the restaurant industry, Irene was a very strong and resourceful woman who taught herself many skills in not only design but also home improvement and construction. Even in her latter years, Irene chose to do all of her own construction and home improvements rather than hire anyone.
She was an avid sports fan and followed all sports, but her first and main love of sports was the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She could often be heard on Saturdays yelling at the TV, encouraging her team to victory. She gladly passed her passion onto her family whenever she could. Irene traveled with her husband and family to many historical sites throughout her lifetime and loved the value of national and local history. In her career in the Restaurant industry, Irene met many national artists and enjoyed music. Her favorite artist from the beginning all the way to the end was Elvis Presley. Irene was a pet lover, especially cats, and had many in her lifetime.
Irene was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Irene had many qualities that will be remembered, but her loyalty to her cause, her family, and those that she loved will continue on through those that knew her best.
Irene is survived by her brother, Jim Ripp (Marie); son, Devin Marks (Jen); daughter, Janie Rath (Roger); grandchildren: Alex, Jordan, Hannah, and Noah; great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie J Marks; parents, Frank and Opal Ripp; brother, Richard Ripp; sister, Marcella Keane.

It is often hard to find the right words at a time like this. May you find peace, comfort, and all the love you need in the days to come.
Sending Love, Prayers and Hugs! All are in my thoughts and wishes for peace during your healing.
Our prayers are with you and your family. May God be with you and give you peace.
Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. Your mother lives on in the kindness she had shared and the love she had brought into your life. She birth you, raise to the best of her ability of loving you. I believe the time you have spent with here has brought her great joy that you will never forget. You and your family are in my heart and mind. My deepest sympathies on the passing of someone you truly love, your mother.
No matter how old we are, it’s never easy to lose a parent. I keep you in my prayers that God will be with in this difficult time. I hope that our Lord brings you and your family the much-needed peace during this sad time. My condolences to you and your family. Love Aunt Mary
I worked with Irene back at Nasr’s restaurant, She made a lasting impression on a 20 yr old girl. She was energetic and had a great work ethic. She taught me alot and never forgot how good she she was to me. May your memories of her give you strength. Be proud if you knew her. She was one of the special ones.
