Ivan Lee Allen

ALLEN, Ivan L. Feb 17, 1930 – Oct 8, 2014 Age 84, of Omaha, NE, Ivan Lee Allen was born on February 17, 1930 in Council Bluffs, the son of Lee and Bertha (Miller) Allen. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, where he played baseball, graduating in 1947. After a stint with Union Pacific Railroad, he was drafted into the Army. Following boot camp in Arkansas, he was stationed in Alaska for two years, serving as secretary to a General. He turned down a Triple-A Baseball offer as well as an offer to work with the Secret Service before marrying Patricia Ann Conway on June 29, 1953. They lived in Council Bluffs while Ivan worked once again at Union Pacific and also attended UNO, from which he graduated in 1958. Three children were born to the couple: Judy, Steve, and Mark. Starting work at Carpenter Paper as a fine paper salesman, Ivan moved his family to Omaha in 1964. Over the years Ivan coached Little League and enjoyed woodworking, maintaining his cars, fixing items around the home, bowling, golfing, coin collecting, Creighton basketball and Nebraska football. He was a founding member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church and remained a parishioner there for the rest of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Dietrich (John); sons, Steven Allen and Mark Allen; four grandchildren: Tom Dietrich (Stacy), Jake Dietrich, Shannon Allen and Brandon Allen; great-grandson, Grant Dietrich; sister, Katherine Baldwin (Art); niece, Dorothy Heistand (Norm). The family will receive friends Friday, October 10th from 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm, all at the West Center Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Saturday, October 11th at 10am at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery with military honors by Benson VFW Post 2503. Memorials are suggested to Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
