James A. Mobley

Mobley, James A.

January 16, 1945 – April 7, 2018

James Arvin Mobley of Omaha, NE, was born at the Eagle Pass, Texas Army Airfield on January 16, 1945.  He passed away on April 7, 2018. He is survived by sons, Shawn Mobley of Chicago, IL, and Martin Mobley of Fairfield, CT; sister, Mary Corbat of Frederick, CO; and brother, David Mobley, of Longmont, CO; maternal aunts, Lorna Otto of Green Lake, WI and Alice Fernandez of Phoenix, AZ.  He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins located throughout the U.S.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma June Loomiller of Longmont, CO and father, Arvin Clay Mobley of Birmingham, AL.

Jim grew up in an Air Force family, moving often during his childhood.  He spent a portion of his youth in Green Lake, WI, on his maternal grandparents’ farm which he remembered so fondly.  Jim was the star quarterback of his high school football team on Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.  He attended the University of Colorado and settled in Omaha in 1967.  Jim was Mr. Omaha—he loved his adopted hometown.  An avid sports fan, softball player, little league baseball coach, crafty cribbage player, and great conversationalist, Jim was strong-willed, with a brilliant mind and a wonderful sense of humor. He was one-of-a-kind and will be terribly missed by his family and friends.

Thank you to Nina Ward and the truly amazing and loving people at Southview Heights who supported Jim over the last four years of his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mercy High School or Holy Cross Grade School, both in Omaha.
