James A. Reinhardt
November 24, 1942 – February 20, 2025
James “Jim” Anthony Reinhardt, 82, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on November 24, 1942, to Floyd and Margaret “Maggie” Reinhardt. Jim, the baby of 6, was raised by his beloved mother, Maggie, in Omaha, where he spent his early years attending St. Peter’s Catholic School and Central High School—both of which he spoke about fondly throughout his life.
Jim was the 1st member of his family line to earn a bachelor’s degree. Jim earned his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He became a Professional Engineer, a distinction he was incredibly proud of. With his wife Patt, his career began as a Civil Engineer in Kimball, NE with Standard Oil of Indiana. After a few years and now a father to 3 of his 5 children, he returned to Omaha, where he progressed his career with various leadership roles and 2 more children. Patt and Jim divorced, but their steadfast love for the family they created together never ceased. Eventually, Jim left Omaha, landing briefly in Phoenix and London before he spent 25+ years in Glenview, IL, a suburb of Chicago where Jim transitioned to management consulting sales. His outgoing personality and love of people made him a natural success. His work took him across the country and around the world.
Jim’s passions extended beyond work—he shared his love of adventure, sports, and holidays with his five children. He coached many of his children in various sports: soccer, little league baseball, and basketball. Jim volunteered in multiple organizations in his children’s athletic endeavors (CYSO, Nebraska Gold Gymnastics). At the end of a day at work, Jim would take his kids for an evening swim to Prairie Lane pool, a place loved by all. A devoted Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, Jim was a longtime season ticket holder and attended every National Championship game in the 1990s with his children. Some of his most cherished memories included traveling with his children and growing family with spouses and grandchildren to major sporting events. Jim loved and celebrated all holidays, but his favorites were St Patrick’s Day, where the day was not complete without a meal of corned beef and cabbage with his family and mother, Maggie. The 4th of July was another favorite; shooting off and watching fireworks was never to be missed. Thanksgiving dinner was a big extended family affair at their home in Omaha, and many times, it lined up with Jim’s birthday – a double celebration! Finally, the most cherished holiday was Christmas where lights, Santa and Rudolph appear on the roof each year and stayed sometimes through Easter (wink). Jim made big deals out of all events and loved family and friends to join in on any celebration.
Above all, Jim was a devoted father and grandfather. He traveled regularly to visit his children (Switzerland, Atlanta, California to name just a few) and took immense pride in their accomplishments, both in work and in life. Known for his strong work ethic and enthusiasm, he passed these values on to his children, along with his love for social gatherings, where he never missed an opportunity to celebrate with his kids and grandkids. He was an enthusiastic and sometimes strict dad—a fact his children would later tease him about—but his unwavering support and deep love for his family were constants throughout his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret “Maggie” Reinhardt; siblings: Rita McAnany (Red), John E. Reinhardt (Beth), Kitty Lomatch (Carl); brothers-in-law: Frank Skradski and Bill Kizer, and most recently, Patt Reinhardt. He is survived by his children: Jim Reinhardt (Edith), Cathy Reinhardt, Liz Reinhardt, Trish Egbert (Ty), and John Reinhardt (Michelle); grandchildren: Sean, Kelly, Sophia, and John William Reinhardt; siblings, Bunny Skradski Kizer and Ed Reinhardt (Pat). Jim was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, a role he embraced from the young age of five.
Jim’s legacy lives on in the countless memories he created with his family and friends. His adventurous spirit, the early tendency to be a “stinker,” humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I was honored to be his friend and neighbor for many years in Glenview. We had a lot of fun together and I know how proud he was of all of his children and grandchildren. He loved a great cocktail, his red convertible and some good lamb chops from Gusto’s! I will always cherish the fun times we had together!
This is a memory from a very long time ago, Jim and Patt were our neighbors in the late 1968-71 years. We were Tom and Terri Haley and lived at 3216 South 120th St. next door to Jim and Patt. I remembered them both as good neighbors among a group of couples in the area just starting out. I remember the small children who occupied 100% of Patt’s time. Unfortunately, our marriage went the way of Jim and Patt’s, but maybe all of us were expecting something different out of marriage that never materialized. I am glad Jim had a loving family to support him throughout his life. Your family can be proud of your Mom and Dad’s guidance and accomplishments that propelled you forward.
Thank you Terri – I do remember you all next door to us on 120th St. Thank you for your kind words.
Condolences to the Reinhardt family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time.
Deepest sympathies to the Reinhardt family from Atlanta friends.

My deepest sympathies to Trish and the Reinhardt family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I’m so glad you are all there together, for him and for each other.
