James Carl Meister
October 20, 1942 – September 2, 2024
Master Sargeant James (Jim) Meister USA (Retired) 2002, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, with his family by his side, after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evalena Hand; and his sisters, Alice Blakeman and Mary Roher; and grandson, Joshua Harrison Roe.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; and his children: Kelly Roe (Keith), Stephanie Graves, and Ryan Meister (Toni); and stepson, Jason Sodowsky; grandchildren: Jessica Meers (James), Megan Roe, Joshua Evan Roe, Ryan Graves, Evan Graves, Rylee Meister, and Kaylee Meister. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Lennox Meers, Raelynn Meers, Jax Meers, and Shiloh Potters/Roe.
Born in Lincoln, Illinois, Jim grew up alongside his siblings: Alice, Ed, Wanda, Carol, and Mary. He married his wife, Elizabeth (Becky), in 1990.
Jim excelled in sports and enjoyed many years of professional softball. He and Becky moved to Bellevue, NE, in 1994, where he was stationed at 561st Regional Support Group, US Active Army Reserve, Omaha Nebraska. His military career lasted until 2002, when he retired, Master Sargeant.
While in Bellevue, he was known for his “can-fix-anything” attitude and his neighborly care and concern.
The Meister family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice for their care and support.
Jim’s life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 9:30AM at West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Chapel, Omaha with VISITATION from 8:30-9:30AM.
INTERMENT: Omaha National Cemetery, 1:30PM, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha.

Loved that man. What a great neighbor and friend. May the Lord comfort you, Becky and family, in your sorrow.

John and I send our deepest sympathy. We sure did have fun when he coached our softball team. Some of the best times. I’ll never forget the fun and laughter. Wonderful memories.
