When I started at Nova/TransCanada 20 years ago Jim was one of the people I provided computer support to. Our paths crossed a number of times in subsequent years on a variety of Projects. I always enjoyed stopping in his office in Omaha and having a chat and catching up. His support, knowledge, presence, humor, dedication and leadership was always appreciated and will be missed.

Uncle Jim always had a joke to tell. He loved to laugh and enjoyed seeing others laughing as well. He had many friends, and even more people who’s lives he impacted. He will be forever missed, but he will live on in our hearts. Lots of love Tommy and Vilmita.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your dear one. I send sincerest sympathy. Our Heavenly Father promises that He will bring our loved ones back to life! (John 5:28,29) The Bible is full of wonderful promises for righteous humankind as well as the Earth. All to be taking place very soon! (Psalms 37:10,11) (Isaiah 11:6-9) He will do away with death and sorrow permanently…(Rev 21:3,4) These promises are for our comfort and to give us hope. I truly wish you peace.

I was so sad to hear Jim had passed away, he like most people have said, was the life of the party and he could always make you smile. There was never a dull moment with you around Jim. May you rest in peace and know you take a piece of me with you. Many found memories we had. Condolences to Jim’s wife and son.

My condolences to the entire family, I have fond memories of Jim in school. The year of our graduation he and I got into trouble for taking wood from a campsite for our grad party. As our punishment we had to replenish what we took.

  • Dele and Arike Davies Posted February 5, 2018 9:56 pm

Heavenly Father, thank you for the few years you gave us to know Jim and his family. Jim was always a lively and humorous person.

    Arike:
Jim remained merry-hearted and full of humor every time I visited him regardless of the discomfort of his illness. I could see that the joy of knowing Christ as his personal Saviour, learning more and more about Him through books and sermons were the fuel that kept him going, not to mention the love, prayers and care that Vilma and other friends and family showered on him. All these culminated in his decision to get baptized. What a great day that was. We give God all the glory.
Well Jim, enjoy the presence of the Lord.

I too have many memories of Jim from grade 1 and on. Like when Laurie Gomouka brought in a stuffed owl to show the class in grade 1 and Jim went and hid under the table and wouldn’t come out as he had watched the movie “The Birds”. Or the school trip to Europe when were in grade 11. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to the whole family.

I was saddened to hear of Jims passing so suddenly and unexpectedly. I had the pleasure and fortune of meeting Jim and working around him during my time as a memebr of the TransCanada team. My fondest memory of Jim was his ability to bring people together and make the enviornment fun and filled with laughter. All that knew Jim or crossed his path will have a void left by his passing. My condolences to his immediate family and to all those that knew him.

Jim and I first met while attending the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and then worked together at NOVA. Although our lives and careers took us in different directions, Jim remained a great friend. The opportunities to reconnect were always filled with lots of laughs. Rest in peace Jim, Cathy & I offer our prayers and comfort to Vilma, Tommy and all of the family.

  • Janet Currie Posted February 7, 2018 6:36 pm

Dear Vilma, Tommy and family, we are so sad to hear of Jim’s passing. As a young engineer in 1984, Jim showed me the many aspects of NOVA’s metering operations and taught me a lot, including how to chase mercury beads across the floor, once you’ve spilled some!
Jim was a very bright man and self learner. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do! Then add in his witty humour, and everyone would be laughing!
There are many here in Calgary that will miss him.
    Sending our love and thoughts,

    Hugs?Janet

Vilma and Tommy – our sincerest condolences on the loss of Jim. I owe much of my career to Jim and during our time working together, he taught me a great deal about work and the importance of life away from the office as well. I have many fond memories of Goldeyes games, Christmas parties in Winnipeg and just chatting about whatever, usually sports, I had the pleasure of working on some successful teams over the years and much of our success was because of our leader. I’ll remember Jim for the rest of my life as the guy who gave me my shot and a good friend…so thanks Jim and thank you both for sharing him.

Jim and I played hockey together for many years. We always seemed to get along, even if our lives took very different paths after high school. We managed to live in the same towns, Edson and Spruce Grove, but we never really ran into each other in the work world.

    Vilma & Tommy
I kind of lost touch with my close friend after he left to work in Winnipeg and then later down in Omaha, Nebraska. Jim was always in my heart and I thought about him and Vilmita often. I was crushed when I heard that Jim had cancer and I prayed hard that he would be OK. Jim was like a brother to me and I also had a lot of love and was so thankful that he found the perfect girl in Vilmita. I regrettably will not be able to make it to Whitecourt for the memorial. Jim will always have a place in my heart RIP my brother.
