James G. Zach

James G. Zach

December 11, 1951 – February 8, 2023

THIS FUNERAL HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND RESCHEDULED FOR  FRIDAY, FEB. 17, 2023.  SAME TIME AND LOCATION.  SEE CURRENT INFORMATION BELOW.

James G, Zach, was born on December 11, 1951, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Gerald and Lucerne Zach, as the second oldest of 8 children. Jim graduated from Paul VI High School in 1970. He joined the United States Air Force in January 1971. He served in Kadena AFB Okinawa during Vietnam. He returned to Offutt AFB until May 1974. Jim worked for Union Pacific Railroad Omaha shops as a machinist for 15 years. He worked for Ready Mix Concrete for 4 years. Jim worked at American Legion Post 331 as Club and Kitchen Manager for 21 years. He served as Post Commander twice. In retirement, Jim took a part-time job at Woodhouse Nissan Bellevue as a courtesy driver. It was a perfect job for him, given his warm, personable demeanor. He made many new friends.

Jim married the love of his life Denise Aupperle on June 23, 1989. They loved their church, and their faith grew there. They enjoyed traveling, Hallmark movies, game shows, gardening, and Husker football. Jim loved to cook, and he enjoyed being Denise’s chef. He was a wonderful cook, and anyone that went to their home never left hungry. Wilber Days was a highlight of theirs for years. They had more fun with their friends from the Legion than should be legal – karaoke nights, steak nights, chicken dinners, and conventions. He shared his children and grandchildren with Denise. They are the light of their lives. Jim enjoyed fast-pitch softball, legion softball, golfing, and bowling. Jim was an avid Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Husker football fan.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Zach; sister, Elizabeth Stienblock; niece, Christina Worsfold; father-in-law Richard Buckingham; mother-in-law Patricia Pellhum; brother-in-law Mark Jordan.

Survived by wife, Denise Zach; daughters Keri and Katie; son Jim Jr.; mother, Lucerne Zach; brothers: John (Sue) Zach, Larry (Margaret) Zach, Thomas Zach, Daniel Zach; sisters, Jeanne Larsen and Susan (Gary) Worsfold; grandchildren: Karsen, Madolyn, Evan, Jordan, and Matthew; brother-in-law, Charles (Lori) Buckingham; and many nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: Wednesday, February 15th, from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES: Friday, February 17th at 10:30am at Good News Church, 7415 Hickory St., with Military Honors.  Interment at Omaha National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed by the family.
