James H. “Jim” Jensen

James H. “Jim” Jensen went home to be with his Savior October 11, 2023.

Jim was born January 17, 1934.  He was raised on a farm outside of Kennard, Nebraska, the youngest of 5 children born to Lillard and Myrtle Jensen.  Thea family moved to 1616 Pinkney in Omaha, NE in 1942.  Jim attended Omaha Technical High School, where his met Joan Vecera at a football game.  He always said, “I threw a pass and she caught it!”  The couple dated throughout high school and through Joan’s Nursing school, until they married on February 8, 1959.

Jim enjoyed a successful career in residential construction and development, building over 150 homes and developing the West Fairacres subdivision.  He then developed over 200 acres of commercial land into what is now the Old Mill office park.  After retiring from development, Jim represented District 20 as a Nebraska State Senator for 12 years, serving as Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee.

Jim was also a part owner and 30 year Board Member of First Westroads Bank in Omaha.  Jim also served on the Boards of Grace University for 15 years and Christ Community Church for 6 years.  Jim was appointed to the City of Omaha Zoning Board of Appeals and was elected to the Papio Missouri River Natural Resources District Board.

Jim loved gardening, camping, boating, fishing, and building, but his greatest love was his wife Joan and his family, including kids: Jon (Pam) Jensen, Jill (Steve) Curtiss, Jeff (Cathy) Jensen, Jay Jensen and Joel (Crista) Jensen; grandchildren: Blake Jensen, Courtney Jensen, Lance Jensen, Reagan Curtiss, Ava Moreano, Jensen Curtiss, Clark Jensen, London Jensen, Madalyn Stemm, Sam Jensen, Alexis Nelson, Joe Jensen, Anna Jensen, Abby Jensen, Luke Jensen, and Kate Jensen; and great grand-children: Hazel Stemm, Scarlett Stemm, and Olivia Jensen.

VISITATION: Monday, October 16, 2023, 10am to 11am at Christ Community Church, 404 S. 108th Ave., followed by FUNERAL SERVICE at 11am.  INTERMENT: Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Okoboji Bible Conference Ministries.

    We were better people for knowing Jim. Our hearts go out to you at this time of loss. We continue to ask the Lord to provide you comfort and a sweet time of reflecting on all the blessings that were Jim.

    Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Our children’s paths crossed with the Jensen “children”, mostly while attending Westside High School and their friendship has continued through their lives. God bless all that morn the loss of “Mr” Jensen and may he rest in eternal Peace.

    We enjoyed time with Jim in the Nebraska Legislature and living at Windsor Square with both Jim and Joan in Lincoln. Great memories and he will be missed by family and friends. Hugs and prayers, SALJL
