James J. “Jim” Daley
March 26, 1939 – June 3, 2024
Born on March 26, 1939, Jim “Harpo” Daley was the second son born to Robert and Peg Daley. He attended St. Bernard’s Grade School and Holy Name High School, graduating from Benson High in 1958.
As a young caddy at Omaha Country Club, Jim developed a deep love for the game of golf that lasted his entire life. Winning the Omaha City Championship five times was remarkable. All his athletic recognition, including being an outstanding basketball player, dims in comparison to his proudest achievement as a 50-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Giving his AA medallions to use as ball markers to family members brought a huge smile to his face. He said, “No three putts allowed!”
Over the years, Jim was accorded numerous awards in the golf arena where he was recognized repeatedly for his champion prowess. For fourteen years he was a professional golfer in Nebraska, Utah, California, and Florida and traveled extensively on the Senior Tour. Possessed of superb “people skills,” Jim never hesitated to share his wit and knowledge of all aspects of the golf swing, but he wasn’t shy about pointing out deficiencies while trying to sound positive. He cherished his family and was equally cherished by them.
Jim is survived by his brother, Robert Daley and wife Twala of Little Rock, AR; sisters: Janet Daley Tedesco of Highland Ranch, CO, Margaret Daley of Denver, CO, and Kathy Daley Toohey of Lake Oswego, OR. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss his devious teasing. We will all miss him terribly and will think of him every day.
Celebration of Life Gathering: Wednesday, June 12th from 4-7PM at West Center Chapel with Remarks at 6PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
