James J. Keres
Jul 31, 1941 – Feb 7, 2018
FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, February 13th, 10am at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 11802 Pacific Street. Private Interment.
Jim’s birth at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, Illinois heralded the arrival of the second child of Adam and Catherine Keres, approximately four years after the birth of Jim’s older sister, Judy. Judy continues to reside in Rockford, IL with her husband, Ron Stephan.
Jim was baptized into the Catholic Church at St. James (Rockford) and graduated in 1959 from St. Thomas Catholic High School. He ran track and was known for his musical proficiency, especially on the saxophone and the French bugle. He was a founding member of the award winning Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. In his later years, he also mastered the guitar and the piano.
One of Jim’s joys was recounting stories of what he called his three year “Kiddie Cruise” where he served on a diving ship in the U.S. Navy. When he was discharged, he was fortunate to be chosen for a specialized program in the early formative years of mainframe development. Jim was one of only a very few students who finished this innovative curriculum. As a result, his career ventured in to many interesting fields. He was a dedicated and driven professional who began and ran multiple successful companies, but he always remained extremely modest about his achievements.
Jim was a long-time member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. He devoted the later years of his life to our Lord through many hours of prayer and adoration. His children and family were prayed for multiple times each day. A ferocious reader, Jim was also a member of Happy Hollow Country Club and supported the Mayo Clinic Foundation and the Omaha Symphony.
Jim leaves behind five biological children: René, Janine, Jay (James), Preston, and Adam; his two stepsons, Rick and Gary; many wonderful grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
