James “Jim” Hutchins Weir

James “Jim” Hutchins Weir

May 23, 1931 – Aug 9, 2017

James “Jim” Hutchins Weir of Omaha passed away on August 9, 2017. Jim was born on May 23, 1931 in Indianapolis where he spent his early years, then moving to Washington, D.C., and finally settling in Omaha in 1946. Jim attended the Univ. of Wyoming, where he studied engineering and was a goalie on the hockey team. In 1950, he enlisted in the Navy and fought in the Korean War.

After retiring from the Navy, Jim worked in his family business, Weir Truck & Body, until 1985, after which he pursued his passion for protecting the halls of Omaha’s elite hospitals for nearly 30 years as a security guard at Clarkson Hospital and Omaha Children’s Hospital, retiring in 2015.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Geraldine Weir; three children: Dr. Scott James Weir (Lucia Falcone Weir), Jacki Weir, and Bradley Weir; his grandchildren: Sara Hart Weir, Nathan Lowell Weir (Leslie), and Dr. Joshua Samuel Weir (Jill); great-grandchild, Amelia James Weir; as well as “Betty” from the Green Bay Packers Pro Shop.

A proud veteran who loved to sail the high seas, Jim was a huge community activist in the Westgate community, was a proud neighbor, father and grandfather, and lived to bleed Packer green and gold.

A private CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held next month. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Jim Weir to the Honor Flight Network (175 South Tuttle Rd. Springfield, OH 45505).
