James “Jim” Langridge

James “Jim” Langridge

James “Jim” Langridge passed away suddenly on Thursday morning May 11, 2023. He was doing what he loved best, in a place he loved. and with friends he loved – on a golf course. He would have wanted you to know that he just birdied the 12th hole! His passing was sudden, either a heart attack or a recurrence of the pulmonary embolism that he survived over 30 years ago.

Jim retired from AT&T with a career in Omaha and New Jersey. He was particularly proud of the Farm Aid and Comic Relief Telethons that he managed.  Jim was a Special Olympics coach for many years, with teams from LaVista Special Olympics and his friend Joe Volpert. He talked lovingly of his ‘kids’ all the time.  Being a “Coach” was truly his highest calling.

Jim is survived by his wife, Molly Wubbena Langridge; and much-loved daughter, Kathleen (Katie Langridge) Tinter; beautiful, brilliant, and beloved granddaughter, Tally Emma Tinter; devoted, trustworthy, and favorite son-in-law, Jeremy Tinter, all of St. Pete, Florida; former wife, Evelyn Dahl of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Joan and brother-in-law, Bobbie Hepker; nieces: Jodi Daniels, Joy Hepker and Jill Watts; many grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews all in North Carolina; cousins: Sherrie, Wilma, Sally and Bruce around the country.  Also, should be mentioned many golf partners across the years with a special call out to General Mike Navrkal of Omaha, and Steve Furyk of Stuart, Florida, dozens of Special Olympic athletes he coached over the years; his cats: Bueller and Bella as well as Ballou, Rocky and Mia waiting for him across the Rainbow Bridge.

Special thanks to his golfing friends, the EMS and OPD who tried everything they could to save him.  Molly also wants to thank her many supportive friends from places they have lived, NWB, AT&T, her own business, and especially: Dede, Debi, Cherie, Van Marie, and Ev who have provided great moral support.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Saturday, May 27, 2023, 10:00AM-12:00 noon at West Center Chapel.

A similar celebration will be held in Stuart, Florida in June, at a date yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Nebraska Special Olympics in Coach Jim Langridge’s name and ask that they fund the LaVista program.

Molly and Family–so sorry to hear this news. I enjoyed spending time with Jim–on and off the golf course! He was a “doer” and fun to be around–filled with knowledge and exuberance. Condolences to you, Katie and the the family. Blessings.

We go back to Jim’s days living in Iowa City. We have good-time memories of those days and so sad that Jim has left us too soon. Our deepest sympathies ❤️
