James Newell McCollough age 82, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Newell was born March 18, 1933 to John R. and Flora (Allmon) McCollough in Missouri Valley, Iowa. . Newell graduated from Missouri Valley High School. Newell worked at Vickers for 39 years as a machinist and then went to work at Horseshoe Casino in the Housekeeping Department. He was a hard worker and had no willing vacation. Newell enjoyed taking walks and never met a stranger and could and would talk to anyone. Newell was always interested in others and truly listened. He loved to drop in and visit family for a cup of coffee and usually a quick nap. The rare vacation goal was how many miles can we drive today. As kids, we learned to yell loudly when a gas station came in sight. Hed always say Dont need to stop for those tourist traps, They looked convincing, but wed eventually stop. Newell was preceded in death by his parents, son: Todd, sisters: Shirley, Betty Jane, Rhoda, Joan, Dorothy brothers: Dick and Bob. Survivors include his children: Kathy McCollough of Papillion, Nebraska, Suzan Van Wilgen and husband Marc of Papillion, Nebraska, Tim McCollough of Elk Horn, Nebraska four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, sister: Mary Burke of Olatha, Kansas, brothers: Edwin Bird of Omaha, Nebraska, John Tip McCollough and wife Becky of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Sunrise Community Church of the Nazarene following the committal service.
