James P. Noonen
November 16, 1929-September 19, 2024
James Patrick Noonen was born in a house in Emerson, NE, on November 16, 1929, to James and Mary Herman Noonen. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and High School and graduated in 1947. During high school, he worked at the grocery store stocking shelves, sacking groceries, and was even a cashier. He played baseball in high school and Legion baseball during the summer. One of his teammates was Archbishop Daniel Sheehan. His dad passed away a month before his High School graduation.
After graduation, he moved to Omaha with his mom to be near family. He worked at First National Bank for 45 years. He started in the mail room, then worked as a teller, and eventually in the loan department. He was then assigned to First Westside Bank as one of the managers. The President of the Bank asked him to return as a Loan Officer at the main bank. When he retired, he was the Manager of the bank’s branch located at 24th and Oak in Omaha.
He enjoyed playing baseball with his friends from St. Patrick’s Parish and softball with his friends at the bank.
He was very active in St. Patrick’s parish as an EME, Lector, Altar Servicer, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and in anything else the parish needed.
Jim was also very active in the South Omaha Eagles F.O.E. #154 and in the Knights of Columbus Council #3019 for over 60 years. He was a Grand Knight, a member of the Honor Guard Team for Brother Knights’ funerals.
Jim also served his country as a member of the Army Reserve.
He met the love of his life, Zita A. Turk, at the Omaha Music Box. They were married on December 2, 1950. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda (Steve) Mach and Kathryn (Robert) Giles.

Our discussions over the years will always have a special place in my heart. Join your lovely bride for heavenly rest, Mr. Jim.
Linda, Cathy and your families. I am sorry for the loss of your dad. He always greeted me at Knights’ functions with a warm hug and kiss on the top my head. Only coming up to his chest, it was easier for us both. No tippy toes for me or bending over for him.. I am in Florida and will not be there for you both. I will always hold a special place in my heart for your mon and dad. Love you both.
I have so many fond memories of your Dad! He was kind, funny and an all around wonderful man. My condolences to the entire family. I’m sure your Mom and the entire St Patrick’s gang greeted your Dad! May all the beautiful memories of your parents give you comfort during this difficult time!
