James Paul Schlichtemier, M.D., FACR, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 24, 1932. Jim moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska with his parents, Paul and Ruth, when he was two. His brother, Don and twin sisters Margaret and Marjorie completed the family.

Jim graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University and University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Medicine. He married his wife, Gloria, on May 26, 1957 and completed his Radiology residency at UNMC. He began his Radiology practice at Nebraska Methodist Hospital. Their family grew to include Lori, Jimmy, David and Julie. After several years in semi-retirement in Kona, Hawaii, he returned to Nebraska and concluded his medical practice at Beatrice Community Hospital.

Jim’s family, friendships and medical practice were very important to him, however, he had many diverse interests. He was a water-enthusiast, car aficionado, pilot, photographer, gadgeteer, movie-lover, world traveler, businessman, art collector, assembler of model airplanes and boats, accomplished pianist, fisherman, hunter and Cornhusker fan.

Jim’s parents, Paul and Ruth, brothers Lawrence and Don and his son, Jimmy Ray, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Gloria, and his children, Lori (Chris), David and Julie (Jim), six grandchildren: David, Caitlin, Erik, Jake, John and Jeff, his sisters Marty Cass and Margie Skube and sister-in-law, Marcia Schlichtemier. Six nephews and two nieces also survive him.

Jim’s family would like to express their appreciation for those who have offered messages of support and sympathy. We will miss him dearly but are comforted by shared wonderful memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Ronald McDonald House or Nebraska Humane Society.
