August 15, 1940 – May 28, 2022

James Richard “Dick” Burrows, age 81 years, was born in Black Hawk County, IA to James and Maxine (Finley) Burrows and graduated from Omaha Central in 1958. On April 29, 1960, he married Carole Joan Hutton in Missouri Valley, IA. He taught Math at Omaha Westside High School and then worked at HDR before spending his career as a computer analyst and auditor with ConAgra Foods.

He volunteered with the Omaha Public Library and various organizations throughout the community. Dick was an avid runner, having run each of the first 22 Omaha Marathons, two Boston Marathons, and numerous other road races throughout the U.S. Dick enjoyed long walks in recent years for conversations with neighbors and new friends. He was an officer and Hall of Fame member of the Omaha Running Club. He is also a member of the Douglas County Election Commission Poll Worker Hall of Fame.

Dick would often say that he had “five good kids.” He expressed love in action to his family. Dick and Carole left a legacy of love for travel. Dick was a mentor, coach, motivator, friend, and fellow runner since I was 13 years old. I will miss you very much Dick – thanks for all the fun and great memories. Phil

So sorry to read of the death of Dick. My sincere sympathy to all the Burrows family. He and Frank are probably having great runs in Heaven.

I knew your dad through politics. He was fun to talk to and had a great attitude. We all marveled at how much he could run! I remember seeing him running and waving as I was driving by and thinking…I can’t believe he’s still running! A gentleman and kind soul. You have my sympathy.

To the family of Dick, I first met Dick at a race in 1980. We were destined to butt heads for many years, because were in the same age group. Sometimes he won and sometimes Dick did. He was always there with a smile. He attended my Dick-A- Meyer race in Fremont a couple of times in January. I will miss him but race him in the great beyond! Don
