Janet Ann (Streck) Shada
May 2, 1936 – June 2, 2023
Janet Shada passed away peacefully at her home on Friday surrounded by family after making it to see the last episode of Ted Lasso, as she said she would. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward R. Shada.
She is survived by her children: Ed (Bailie) Shada, Toni (Paul) Brasher, John (Nancy) Shada, and Michael Shada; grandchildren: Gretchen (Mark) Ermeling, Chris (Angie) Johnson; Becca Brasher, Cortney Shada, Jocelyn Brasher, Alex (Tory) Shada; Great Grandchildren: Hannah, Jaina, Wyatt, Emma, Wade, Addelyn, Caden, Leon; and; siblings: Lois Brink, Walt (Sherell) Streck, Ron (Judy) Streck, Diann (Tony) Iarocci; many nieces and nephews; several other loving family members and friends.
Janet was born in Mapleton, Iowa to Leo and Edith Streck where she grew up on the family farm. She moved to Omaha to attend Creighton University in 1955 where, through her friend Dolores Brady, met her husband. They were married for 59 years before Ed’s passing in 2013.
Family was important to Janet. She was a supportive wife, mother, sister, and a devout Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily. She spent the early part of her life as a stay-at-home mom before moving into the family trucking business to assist Ed. She spoke to her family on a regular basis offering advice or a shoulder as necessary and, because of who Janet was, she was blessed with an abundance of friends and family who stayed close to her for her entire life.
Janet wasn’t one to sit on the sidelines, either. She learned to love football from Ed and became an avid lover of the sport hosting tailgate parties in their motorhome at Husker games and cheering on her beloved Chicago Bears every Sunday. She loved a dirty martini, golf, sports cars, traveling, the symphony and opera, she played the piano and, when younger, enjoyed skiing. At 82, she hopped on a zipline with some of her grandchildren just to show them she could still play.
Janet lived an incredibly full and wonderful life. She will be missed dearly, and her spirit will live in all our hearts.
The family is grateful to Toni and her family for caring for Janet the last year of her life and Toni’s husband Paul who, with the patience of Job, endured many cross-country trips with Janet and her sister Lois.
