McClearen, Janet Duros, Aug 10, 1948 Jul 27, 2012. Known for her compassion, generosity, and faith, Janet Duros McClearen spent her life writing, teaching, and serving others through various educational organizations, ministries, and personal relationships. In her quiet, empathetic spirit, she provided an ear to those who needed it and strength to those who had lost their own. She was a bright light that will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Janet was an avid reader who took great joy in introducing others to books that comforted or intrigued her. She recently wrote in her blog, I couldn’t begin to calculate how much I’ve spent on the printed word over the past four decades, probably an obscene amount, or how many books I’ve loaned out or given away. I love sharing books with others, and when I read something I like, I usually want to share it. Janet had a voracious appetite for life that was fed through reading and writing and sharing that experience with others. Janets quest for knowledge and understanding did not end with the written word. She traveled throughout her life and was fascinated by historical and spiritual places. She imparted the same zeal in her children while homeschooling them and carting them on foreign adventures with her and her husband. This same curiosity for the world and the souls in it led her to study history and religion at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she graduated with a B.A. and a M.A. In closing, Janets own words best convey what her life meant to so many: There are times when people, either in person or through books, enter into my life at just the right bend in the road, and my whole being resonates with most, if not all of their words, journey, soul. They are teachers, sent to me, I believe, by God, at the moment when I need to hear what they have to say. Janet entered our lives in the moment we all needed her and we were blessed to have her as our teacher. Janet died in her home surrounded by family on July 27, 2012.
