Janet Kay (Walquist) Tumbleson

TUMBLESON, Janet Kay (Walquist), May 9, 1940 – Oct 19, 2010. Age 70, Omaha; died at her home with her family by her side from complications related to a courageous long term battle with cancer. Jan was born May 9, 1940, in Clay Center, Kansas. She graduated from Clay Center High School in 1958. Marrying Gene in 1960, they lived in Sidney Nebraska before settling in Ralston, Nebraska. She started work for Northwestern Bell, and continued with Qwest until she retired 1996. Despite her struggle with cancer, Jan will be remembered for the countless hours she and Gene spent volunteering for numerous organizations including the Summer Arts Festival, Brush Up Nebraska, Ak-Sar-Ben, Fontenelle Forest, River City Round-up, and Henry Doorly Zoo. In 1999, she received the Sertoma Service to Mankind award. With never a complaint despite her illness, she had a big heart and spent countless hours for the benefit of others. Jan was a member of Saint Gerald’s Catholic Church. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Opal Walquist. Survivors include her husband of 51 years Gene Tumbleson, brother, Warren Walquist and wife Diane of Clay Center, KS, sons Todd A. Tumbleson and wife Mindy of Leawood, KS, Jeffrey D. Tumbleson and wife Traci of Nashville, TN, Scott J. Tumbleson and Jodee McDonald of Ralston. Grandchildren include Connor, Ben, Lindsay, Savannah, Kylie, Jacob and Madison. Close friend of the family Clara Linenbrink, many friends and neighbors, and beloved pet Bailey. The family would like to thank all her doctors, nurses and caregivers over the years especially to all the wonderful people of Odyssey Hospice for the compassionate care given to Jan during her final days. A special thanks to Grey Morales and Michael Escobedo, whose loving, compassionate care over the last several months meant so much to both Jan and the family. The family will receive friends Friday, 5pm-7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Saturday, 11am, St. Gerald Catholic Church Lakeview Chapel, 7859 Lakeview St. Inurnment, Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorials will be directed by the family.
