Jan spent most of her childhood in South Sioux City, Nebraska.  She loved swimming and held a long-standing record in the breaststroke for the Dolphins Swim Team.  She graduated from South Sioux City High School and was a cheerleader for the Cardinals.

After Dave’s enlistment in the Navy, the couple moved to southern California where Jan worked in banking.  In 1980, Dave and Jan became parents to their first of two children.  David was born in Sioux City, Iowa on September 24th, one day after Jan’s 21st birthday.  The young family lived in Dakota City, Nebraska and South Sioux City, and Jan worked at Siouxland National Bank.  On September 12th, 1985, Kalee was born, and the family was complete.

In 1989, the family moved to Omaha, Nebraska.  Jan worked at First National Bank and pursued further education at Iowa Western Community College for computer programming.  After 17 years at First National, Jan made a career change to real estate.  Dave had begun work as a realtor one year before Jan, and Kalee also joined the family business.

Jan and Dave became grandparents in 2007 with the birth of Henry (son of David and Elizabeth).  Matthew, Rosalie, Joseph John “JJ”, and Eli followed their oldest brother.  Kalee’s first son, Jay, was born on March 2, 2020, and his brother, Archie, was recently added to the family on October 21, 2021.  Jan was not able to visit with newborn Archie before passing but did see her new grandchild in photographs.

Jan loved taking care of the grandchildren, reading to them, attending their activities and sporting events.  She enjoyed spending time at her cabin and relaxing on the dock by the water.  Jan was looking forward to living the simple life at her Lake of the Ozarks cabin and her new cottage in Harlan, Iowa.

Jan will be greatly missed, and her light will shine on in her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Anderson family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I met Jan when I went to look at a property, and then I listed my parent’s house with her because I liked her. She was so much help when I had to pack up their house because I was working 40 hours a week and trying to get that done. I hit a wall and just couldn’t do any more, so she recommended a place that really helped me. She was a lifesaver. I will miss getting her little calendar with the Nebraska football schedule on it. She was really a very nice woman.

Dear Dave, Kalee, David, and family,

I am so sorry to learn of Jan’s sudden & unexpected death from the COVID-19 virus. I know Jan had made so many plans for her retirement years and living simply, spending quality time with her family & friends. She was a kind, intelligent, funny, organized, motivated, caring person. So many people will miss her being a positive presence in their lives. I hope time will ease and lessen your pain & sorrow, but never lessen the happy memories of times you spent with Jan. Those memories will help to keep her alive in your hearts and minds.

Please accept my deepest sympathy & condolences. Bob Brown, First National Bank of Omaha co-worker and NP Dodge/Jan Anderson real estate customer.

We were so very sad to hear of Jan’s passing. She was the kindest and easiest person to work with during the buying and selling of our home. Her outgoing and friendly personality made the conversation so easy! We quickly grew quite fond of her and Dave. Our deepest condolences to Dave and the family. She will truly be missed.

I met Dave and Jan when we were Realtors at the Pacific St. office of CBSHome. Rave reviews from their satisfied clients were an inspiration and testament to the kind people they were. Once I met their beautiful daughter, who was about my son’s age, not only did I consider what could happen but “Jan had a plan!” and it worked. Zach & Kalee married a few years later–you can imagine the winks Jan and I exchanged at their wedding!. She was always smiling, always positive and always put her family first. Because of the person she was-and the love she shared the next generation of the Anderson & Hergert family will carry with them an inner peace knowing what a wonderful person their Grandma Jan was. All of our lives have been blessed to have known and loved her. May she forever live simply in the arms of God.
