Jannell A. Baker
November 24, 1955 – September 12, 2024
Jannell Ann (Robinson) Baker left us to be with the Lord on September 12, 2024. After a courageous 54-year battle with type 1 diabetes, she finally succumbed to the complications of her disease.
Jannell was born in Omaha, and spent her childhood in Westgate, Elkhorn, and Benson. After finishing high school, she studied secretarial science at Metropolitan Community College and worked as a clerical assistant for Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial). She met many new Christian friends at Gateways to Life, an interdenominational Christian singles group; one of those friends was an Air Force reservist medical student named John Baker, who she married in October, 1979. Jannell faithfully followed John to numerous USAF assignments, including Vacaville, California; San Antonio, Texas; and Beavercreek, Ohio.
Jannell was preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and Wayne Robinson; grandparents, Clifford and Jeanette Solon; aunts and uncles: Carolene Smith, Clifford Solon, and Lindy Solon; brother-in-law, Tim Thomas; and numerous beloved pets: Boomer, Skylar, Penny, Abby, Barnaby, Rocky, Radar, Lilly, Herbie, Buster, Butterscotch, Patches, Low Boy, Jennie. She is survived by her husband, John; son, Matthew (Nicole); grandson, Hudson; sisters, Jolene Thomas and Carol McMillen; nieces and nephews: Kristi Nelson (Jeremy), Jena Walsh (Luke), and Jay Thomas; cousin, Gary Smith (Joan); goddaughter, Ashlee Petersen (Drew); numerous other wonderful friends, relatives, and in-laws; and her latest beloved dog, Quincy.
Jannell’s infectious smile and unparalleled generosity impressed everyone she met. She always looked beautiful, even when she felt terrible. Her tenacity and fighting spirit in the face of numerous medical problems was an inspiration to everyone. She will be sorely missed.
