Jay Richard Shattuck was born April 7, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to Verner and Opal Shattuck.  He was active in the outdoors, loved the water, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 15.  He joined the United States Army where he served as a Medical Specialist until he was discharged after an accident that damaged a kidney.  When he returned home, he attended the University of Missouri where he worked as a lifeguard at Sunny Shores Lake in Kansas City, Missouri, which led to a lifelong passion of teaching swim lessons and coaching swim teams at YMCA in Norfolk (where he lived for 43 years).  After college, Jay worked for 35 years at the pharmaceutical company, Merck, Sharp & Dohme.

After retirement, Jay and Marilyn wintered for many years in Arizona and loved to travel!  They moved to Omaha in 2007 where Jay formed a weekly golf group, volunteered his time at SCORE, and continued to teach swim lessons to adults at Lifetime Fitness up until a year ago, when his health made it no longer possible.  It may have been the one activity that he enjoyed more than golf!

Jay is survived by wife, Marilyn Shattuck of Omaha, NE; son, Brian Shattuck (Laureen) of Parkville, MO; daughter, Courtney Blanchard-Allen (Terry) of Charlotte, NC; son, Brad Shattuck (Christine) of Tampa, FL (their mother Barbara Shattuck-Durant); stepdaughter, Jodi Jacobsmeier (Jason) of Omaha, NE; stepson, Doug Timperley of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Peter and Christian Shattuck, Lucy and Tucker Allen, Talland Blanchard, Tessa Blanchard-Olivo, Tanner Blanchard and Taylor Dicks (née Blanchard), Molly, Amber, and Fauna Shattuck, Luke and Camryn Jacobsmeier.  Jay was preceded in death by parents and sister, Linda Shattuck.

To the Shattuck family,, Jay lived such a full life f of enthusiasm and love. He cared for so many people and was so generous with his time…I know he would give the “shirt off his back” if you asked him! Marilyn and family, Hard to believe that Jay has passed away. I always enjoyed playing golf with him. I also spent a lot of time in the same cart as him. When he hit a bad shot or missed an easy putt, his saying was”Ahh come on” He will be missed on the Links. Don

    Dear Marilyn and Family,

You have our deepest sympathy. Dr. enjoyed Jay’s many visits to the eye clinic. He was a fine sales rep. May you find strength and courage during this sad and difficult time.
