Jean B. Laughlin

Jean B. Laughlin

February 1, 1937 – January 14, 2020

Preceded in death by husband, Jerome; daughter-in-law, Sandy Laughlin; and brother, Larry Post.  Survived by son, Jim Laughlin (Susan); granddaughter, Jessica (Greg Mrsny); sisters, Shirley McCan (Dale) and Barbara Chloupek; niece, Traci Jo Whelan (John); and nephews, Charlie Post and Tom Post (Patty.)

Jean was born February 1, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born to Roy and Anna (Hahn) Blunt.  She had three siblings: Larry Post, Shirley McCan (Chloupek) and Barbara Chloupek.  Jean spent her early childhood in rural Sarpy county before moving to Omaha where she attended Prairie Center Elementary and Omaha South High School.  She graduated Omaha South in 1954.  In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her cousins, Ellen, Jan, Barb and Marcia.

She married Jerome Laughlin in August of 1955 in Omaha.  They celebrated 47 years together before Jerome passed away in October of 2002.  The couple had one son, Jim, in April of 1959.  Jean was employed by Grunwald Plumbing from 1960 to 1976 as an Executive Assistant.  In 1976, she changed employment to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital as a staff assistant to the engineering department.  She retired from the V.A. in 1999.

In 1991, Jean was blessed with the birth of her only grandchild, Jessica. Some of her favorite memories were with Jessica.  They often went garage-saleing, enjoyed lunch at Sizzler and spent snow days together.

Jean was an avid pet lover, enjoyed many different card games and loved a good Nebraska Football game. (GO BIG RED!)  She also enjoyed hosting family gatherings.  In her retirement, Jean enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and friends and quilting, where she made numerous blankets for Project Linus.

She spent the last part of her life at Remington Heights Assisted Living, where she made many friends and enjoyed a good BINGO game.  Jean especially enjoyed her meals with Jack and Norma Jean.

The family would like to thank Jean’s neighbors, Jane and Janee for taking such good care of her, as well as the staff of Remington Heights, Methodist Hospital and Josie Harper Hospice House for their care and support of Jean and her family.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, January 25th, 11am, at the West Center Chapel.  Private INTERMENT in Springfield, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society or V.N.A. Hospice.
