Jean L. Lemke

Jean L. Lemke

November 16, 1936 – June 6, 2024

Jean Lemke, 87, passed away on June 6, 2024, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. She was born on November 16, 1936, to Edward and Olga (Stauffer) Lemke in Wisner. She graduated from Wisner High School in 1954. At the age of 17, she was a teacher in a one-room country schoolhouse. She later moved to Fremont, and then to Omaha, where she was a dedicated employee at IBM for many years.

Jean enjoyed antiquing and traveling, often combining the two. Her favorite destinations were Colorado and New Mexico. She loved spending time with family and friends, going out to restaurants and movies. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, an avid reader, and often traded books with friends. She loved going to the casino, referring to it as ‘therapy.’ Jean was known as being kind and considerate, touching lives of everyone she knew. Her sense of humor made here an intriguing storyteller, often sharing stories of her life. She was a gifted writer, with her recent work telling the history of her parents’ lives. Her annual Christmas letter became a way to share her talent of poetry with family and friends. Using her wit and whimsy, she composed the entire letter as a poem.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, special friend, Verdell Gnuse, and brothers, Roy, Del, and Lavern.

There will be no services per Jean’s wishes. Condolences can be shared online at www.heafeyheafey.com. Memorials can be directed to the mortuary for the family’s future designation.
