Jennie Marie (Deaver) Condon
August 25, 1924 – November 18, 2021
Jennie Marie Deaver was born August 25, 1924, in Oakland, Nebraska to Clark and Iva Deaver. She grew up on a dairy farm in Tekamah, Nebraska, but the farm was so close to town that she never considered herself a farm girl. After graduating from Tekamah High School, she worked as a housekeeper and nanny in Omaha, Nebraska. It was there she met the love of her life. Jennie married John Condon on March 15, 1943.
In the early years of their marriage, the couple moved from Tekamah to Plattsmouth to Scottsbluff to Blair and then to Loveland, Colorado as John pursued a career in the newspaper business. They eventually returned to Omaha where John spent 34 years at the Omaha World Herald. Jennie was busy raising five children: Rich, Kathy, Rose, Mike and Greg. When the kids were older, she took a job at Bergan Mercy Hospital. In 1971, she and John opened The Tobacco Pouch, a pipe and tobacco store at 90th and Center.
In their spare time, Jennie and John enjoyed traveling, often stopping to visit long-lost friends and relatives along the way. They made a trip to Ireland where they explored the remains of Condon castles. They also looked forward to getting together with friends to play cards and “bat the breeze.” The highlight of their year was an annual Christmas Eve gathering with as many of their 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren in attendance as possible.
On March 15, 2020, Jennie and John celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary. John passed away in August of that year. In her final days, we heard Jennie talking to John. She was cooking up a plan to renew their wedding vows. She left to join him on November 18th at the age of 97.
Preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, John D. Condon. Survived by five children: Rich Condon (Jane), Kathy Palmer, Rose Klabunde (Dan), Mike Condon (Kris) and Greg Condon; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren.
The family respectfully requests that masks be worn.
Family will receive friends Monday, November 29th from 5pm to 7pm at West Center Chapel followed by PRAYER SERVICE at 7pm. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Tuesday, November 30th at 10:30am, Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery, 5710 Center Street. Memorials to Siena/Francis House, PO Box 217, Omaha NE 68101.

You will be greatly missed Grandma! Enjoy being in the arms of your loving husband once again.
We met Jennie when John participated in the October 2008 Honor Flight to D.C. for WWII veterans. A wonderful woman and those two were a terrific couple.
