Jerald “Jerry” Heathershaw

Jerald “Jerry” H. Heathershaw was born December 21, 1938 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Kenneth and Ida Heathershaw.  He died at home on August 12, 2025.

Jerry and his family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota when he was a young child, and he was a star athlete at Rapid City High School. Following graduation, he was proud to serve in the United States Marine Corp, after which he attended the South Dakota School of Mines.  He spent nearly 40 years working as a Civil Engineer, a career that allowed him and his family to travel throughout the United States, living in North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas, Alabama, Maryland, Colorado, and three different stints in Nebraska, including Papillion, Ogallala and Lincoln, before finally retiring in Omaha.   He enjoyed hunting and golf.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, LaVonne Heathershaw; his daughter Carla (Joe Risko) Heathershaw-Risko and grandchildren Joseph and Julia, son Loren (Kelly) Heathershaw and grandchildren Kegan and Aribella, and granddaughter Bailey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marilyn Jensen, Roger and Jeannette Chapin, and Jim and Charlene Tragesar; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son Andrew Heathershaw; his siblings Tom (late Charlotte) Heathershaw, Lyle (“Ike”) Heathershaw, Duane (“Duke”) Heathershaw and Kenny Bradfield; and brothers-in-law and sister-in law Dean and Betty Hoffman and Bob Jensen.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 15, 2025 at Pacific Hills Lutheran Church, 1110 S 90th St, Omaha, NE.  Private interment at a later date.

    I so sorry to hear this. I feel that we didn’t stay in touch in our later years. I remember jerry as a young man . When I was about 4 or 5 years old he came to Hot Springs to stay with our Heathershaw Grandparents. We used to go hiking and he would carry me on his back all while hiking. He was just so big and my hero. I’ll always cherish those memories. To me he was bigger then life. Rest in Peace Jerry

    I am so sorry to hear of the passing or Jerry. He was such a sweet man and I am thankful to have met him and Lavonne during his time at rehab. Caring for him was an honor. My condolences to your family. -Katie
