Jerry was born on November 25, 1935, in Omaha to Harold and Jean Buscher. He had one brother, Bill. He attended Field Club Elementary School briefly before attending Our Lady of Lourdes through the 8th Grade and graduating from Tech High School in 1954. He began working in the stock yards where he developed a love of cattle and the cattle feeding business. Through friendships he then started feeding his own cattle on a lot in South Omaha. He loved every minute of it.
Jerry served two years in the Army, based in Newfoundland. In 1957 he married Sheila Hayes at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church—their family came quickly with the births of Tom, Anne, John, and Tim. His focus now was on raising a family, so he became an Omaha Firefighter. He retired as Captain in December of 1990.
He loved hunting and fishing and had a few boats of his own which he loved. He fished a lot with son, Tom and his cousin, Charles. He had a motorcycle briefly and everyone held their breaths when he took off on his “travels” through South Omaha and Bellevue.
He was a conscientious provider for the family—always fending a second job to help with “the kids.” He umpired baseball, drove a semi for various companies, and held many other “odd jobs.” There was never a vehicle he could not drive, including the electric wheelchair he operated in the last months of his life.
We loved him deeply and will miss him forever. Jerry is at rest and peace with the Lord and his family, especially Anne, and his beloved dog, Lady.
