Jerrold W. Radil

Jerrold W. Radil

March 28, 1931 – December 3, 2024

Jerrold William Radil, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 93. Known for his love of the outdoors, and his family, Jerrold leaves behind a lasting legacy of 26 years of service and dedication to the Omaha Fire Department.

Born on March 28, 1931, to Henry William Radil and Elsie Anne (Adams) Radil, Jerrold took great pride in his Czech heritage while growing up in South Omaha. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator during the Korean War. Jerrold’s dedication to his community was reflected in his career with the Omaha Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Captain. A respected and courageous leader, Jerrold was known for his quick thinking, problem-solving skills, and unwavering commitment to the safety of Omaha’s residents.

Jerrold loved to tinker. He was the go-to guy for fixing almost anything—whether it was a broken TV or a car in need of repair. A true outdoorsman, Jerrold loved hunting and fishing, and these hobbies were a central part of his life.

In 1957, Jerrold married the love of his life, Joan Marie Christ, and together they shared 61 years of marriage until Joan’s passing in 2019. Jerrold’s love for Joan was evident, and he cherished the memories of their life together. Jerrold was a proud father to Sheila Radil Myers, Debbie Radil Hermance, and Michael Radil. He took great pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. His eight grandchildren— Ian, Bridget, Daniel, Audrey, Jacob, Keith, Allison and Carolyn,—and 11 great-grandchildren were the joys of his life.

A private family service will be held to celebrate and honor the full life of Jerrold. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of one’s choice in his name. Jerrold’s legacy of hard work, love for his family, and his passion for the outdoors will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory and the lessons he imparted will never be forgotten. We take comfort in knowing that his reunion with his beloved wife Joan in heaven was a deeply beautiful and heartfelt moment.

Burial has taken place at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha.
