Jerome Edward “Jerry” Otterson
June 11, 1950 – September 1, 2021
Jerome Edward Otterson of Omaha, Nebraska, was born on June 11, 1950, and passed with his family by his side on the evening of September 1, 2021.
Jerry lived his life with optimism, fortitude, resilience, humility, and the quick-witted humor for which he was so loved. A master carpenter, musician, artist, athlete, coach, and life of the party with witty remarks and stories. He was at home in nature, intellectually curious, always willing to lend a helping hand, and adept at creation and restoration, taking pride in his quality work and craftsmanship. Jerry loved rock and roll, sports, and the great outdoors. As a lifelong learner and teacher, he shared his wisdom and lessons generously.
He dedicated his life to his children as a devoted father and their most steadfast and loyal supporter. Boy Scout Master of two Eagle Scout sons, roadie for his son’s national bike racing competitions, “Guitaro” to his son’s rock band, dance dad to his daughters; his whistle rang proud at every ceremony honoring his children.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly Otterson; his six children: Amy Otterson, Jeremy Otterson (Dana), Jesse Otterson (Stacey), Kristen Otterson (Allan), Shawn Otterson (Jill), and Shannon Westin (Matt); three grandchildren: Nicholas Otterson, Ellie Westin, and Riley Otterson; and two siblings, George Otterson and Mary Ameln. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Leonard Otterson and Margaret Mary Otterson; and sister, Trudy Otterson.

So.very sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. He was a great guy: kind, considerate, caring,, as well as smart, witty, and fun to be around. My kids called him Uncle Goofy, for his sense of humor. Loved his smile and his laugh. Will miss him, but he will live on in my memories and my heart. My heartfelt condolences to his wife Bev, His siblings Jack (George) and Mary, and to all his children and family.
We are so sorry to learn of Jerry’s passing. He has always been the ‘cool’ uncle to my brothers and I. We remember his kind eyes, calming sense of wisdom and witty humor.
Please know that we are all thinking of your family at this time and holding you in our hearts and prayers.

My condolences to the OTTERSON family. Jerry was a great father and husband! I am fortunate enough to travel with him to a few of the BMX races with Shawn and Bev. We made some great memories that I’ll always remember.
