Jerry Record
February 8, 1934 – February 28, 2024
VISITATION with the family is scheduled for Sunday, March 17th from 1:00-3:00 p.m., West Center Chapel.
Jerry was born on February 8, 1934 to Charles “Frank” and Addie Record (nee McDuffee). He was the youngest of 6 children, all born in Omaha. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Betty Holzapfel, on May 6 1954, and they were blessed to have 67 years of marriage together. Together, they raised 4 daughters, Jane, Lori, Barb and Carol.
Jerry spent many of his youthful summers working at his sister and brother-in-law’s farm in Elm Creek, Nebraska. Throughout his life, this area continued to hold a special place in his heart, as the family often took trips to the farm to visit relatives, hunt and fish. Watching Jerry catch fish was one of the greatest joys for his family. He was happiest when he had a fishing pole in hand.
Jerry started working at a young age to help support his mom. He took on numerous jobs, working at a grocery store (where he was paid in sandwiches), cleaning motel rooms and working at a chicken feed plant before he found his life’s work in the automotive field. Jerry worked for his brother in his auto repair shop, and later as a mechanic for McKenzie Pontiac. He worked his way up to Service Manager at Mike Gorges Pontiac, often winning trips for service excellence. He and Betty saw a lot of the world together, traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, Central America, the Panama Canal, and much of the continental U.S.
After retiring, Jerry wasn’t one for slowing down. He went on to work for several more years cutting grass at Shoreline Golf Course in Carter Lake, Iowa.
Jerry was the best dad any daughter could have asked for. He taught them how to fish, he built them ice rinks in the back yard, hauled them all over town when they were too young to drive, and made sure they always felt cared for and loved. He was truly one in a million.
Family always came first with Jerry. During his youth he took care of his Mom, in his middle years, he took care of his family, and in his later years, he took care of his wife, as she went through dementia; in his last years, his daughters and their families had the privilege of caring for him.
Jerry is survived by his four daughters who completely adored him: Jane (Mark) Altman, Lori (Ken) Justman, Barb (Dave) Woods, and Carol (John) Mumma. Also surviving him are his 6 grandchildren, Andy Altman, Kevin Altman (fiancée, Kylie), Katie Justman (fiancée, Bridget), Alex Justman (wife, Cassie), Mitch Woods (wife,Whitney) and Lindsey Woods (fiancé, Tyler). In addition to his daughters and grandchildren, Jerry had a special place in his heart for his niece, Corliss Sullwold, and her daughter, Christa Britton. They always made sure their Uncle Jerry had an open invitation to come fish and hopefully “reel in the big one”.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Nebraska Humane Society, or a Charity of your choice.

I so enjoyed the times I got to visit with Uncle Jerry. He was such a nice guy and I could tell his family was everything to him. I am sure he was well received in heaven!
Our sympathies to all the family.
Praying for your Dad, you and your family.
Jerry hired me in 1987 at Mike Gorges as a young technician out of Milford, he sent me to all of the GM training he could and helped mold me into the technician I became. I stayed at Mike Gorges which then changed to Plaza Buick GMC, my last 5 years there I was Service Manager and always enjoyed the times that Jerry would stop by to visit. I left there in 2013 and have been teaching Automotive Technology at Metro Community College. He will be missed, thoughts and prayers are with the your families.
Nothing is more painful in life as the separation of a jewel. God rest his soul. Our most sincere condolences.
What a loving tribute to your Dad!
May you find peace in his passing 🙏 & laughter in the memories! 🤣

Our prayers and deepest codolences to Jane, her husband Mark, and the rest of Jerry’s family. Jerry was a very good neighbor to us when we lived there and we always enjoyed speaking to him. He always had a smile and was very spoken. He was always eager to help if Scott had an issue with anything, whether that be a lawn mower that wasn’t running well or anything else we needed help with. We are sorry to hear of his passing.
