Jim (James) Michael Patrick Ratigan

September 14, 1939 – December 26, 2023

Passed away on December 26th at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center is Sun City West, Arizona surrounded by his loving family.

Survived by partner, Joyce McDonald; daughters: Diane Ratigan-Schmidt (Ty), Debra Kirschner (Jeff); son Ryan Ratigan (Noelle); grandchildren: Drew, Reilly, Paige and Seth Kortus, Cole, Chloe and Chase Kirschner, Brayden and Brooks Ratigan; brother Gary (Marcy) of Ankeny, IA; brother Denny of Yutan, NE; sister Janet Block of Bellevue; brother-in-law Bill Schneidewind (Sharon) as well as nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Bonnie Ratigan; parents Pat and Adeline Ratigan of Panama, IA; brother Tom of Omaha, NE; sister Patty of Harlan, IA; grandson Oliver of Hastings, NE and an infant brother.

Jim was born on a farm on the outskirts of Panama, IA on September 14, 1939 and grew up in Panama attending St. Mary’s School where he graduated in 1957.  He enlisted in the Army in 1960.  Jim worked for many companies over the years and ultimately ended up running his own businesses.  He fixed vehicles/tires, sold cash registers, candy, razors, cars and real estate.  Jim worked hard his whole life for his family and loved going on vacations, boating trips and traveling with the family. Jim and Bonnie had a wonderful life together full of kids, grandkids, love, and blessings.  In 2010, Jim lost his beloved wife Bonnie to lung cancer and later met Joyce McDonald for loving companionship.  Jim loved to golf, entertain family visitors, hang out with his brothers and golf friends and attend dinner parties regularly.

Jim will be honored at a Celebration of Life at the American Legion in Millard (13913 S Plaza Omaha, NE) on March 30th, 2024 from 2:00PM -5:00PM and placed to rest with his wife, Bonnie, at Evergreen Cemetery in a small private ceremony.

    Jim was a very good friend and golfing partner. We will miss his wry wit and his insights into life here in Arizona. My deepest condolences to Joyce and his family.
