Jimmy Lee Contreras

January 15, 1958 – January 22, 2021

Jimmy Lee Contreras, 63, passed away on January 22, 2021, following a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer.

Jimmy was born on January 15, 1958 in Kansas City, MO, to Joseph and Paula (Patlan) Contreras.  He was the third of six children.  Jimmy graduated from Omaha South High School in 1976 and then enjoyed a career spanning over 40 years with Union Pacific Railroad, starting as a porter and retiring in 2018 as a conductor.  He was a member of the UTU Local 367, and was proud to serve as a president for its members.

Jimmy was married on November 26, 1988 to Mary Pat Kenney.  They had three children, which were the pride and joy of Jimmy’s life – Nickolas James (28), Joseph John (25), and Amada Cristine (23).  He enjoyed watching them throughout his life at all their athletic events and many activities as they were children. And proud to see what outstanding individuals they have become in their adult lives.

Jimmy enjoyed traveling to Mexico to see his many relatives, watching sports, and talking with his many friends.  He was one of a kind and had an outgoing personality with a great sense of humor.  Jimmy believed in faith, family and friends above all else.

He is survived by his wife and three children; Jimmy’s brothers and sisters – Josephine, Tony (Julie), Paula Ybarra (Timmy), Joseph Jr (Claudia), and Nati, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Paula Contreras.
