Joan Allen age 86, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away on March 21, 2014 at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa. Joan was born June 24, 1927 to John and Flora (Allmon) McCollough in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Joan married Robert Allen September 27, 1943, she attended school in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Joan was a Nurses Aide at Longview for many years, everyone called her grandma. She enjoyed crocheting, church, cruising around town, and volunteering at Longview Care Center. Joan loved being with her family because family was everything to her. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Allen Sr., Dorothy Harlow, Bob McCollough, Dick McCollough, Rhoda Mae Carpenter, Shirley Wright and Betty Jane McCollough. Survivors include her children: Robert Allen Jr. and wife Alice of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Mary Jane Rowe and husband Dewey of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Ronald Allen and wife Betty of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Richard Allen and wife Gloria of Woodbine, Iowa; 13 grandchildren 25 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren, brothers: John C. Tip McCollough and wife Becky of Underwood, Iowa, Newell McCollough of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Edwin Bird of Omaha, Nebraska, sister: Mary Burke of Olatha, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Sunrise Community of the Nazarene Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Rand Center after the committal service.
