Joan Marie (Alt) Gerard

Joan Marie (Alt) Gerard

October 11, 1955 – November 19, 2019

Joan Marie (Alt) Gerard was born to Edith and Mark Alt. She grew up on a farm north of Shelby, Nebraska. She was a cheerleader and ran track at Aquinas High School, and earned her nursing degree at Bryan School of Nursing in 1976. She worked as a nurse at Clarkson Hospital.

Joan married Ronald C. Gerard on September 22, 1979, and they moved into a house in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a wonderful mother to her son Jeffrey.

Joan loved fishing, watching baseball, reading, and anything with a glue gun. Her strong, quiet faith carried her bravely through 40 years of struggle with MS. An unexpected, sudden stroke took Joan from this world at the age of 64.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gary Alt. She is survived by her husband, Ronald C.; son, Jeffrey C. (Maryellen); sister, Cindy McCawley (Steve); brother, Chris Alt (Mary); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family will receive friends Friday, November 22nd from 5pm to 7pm at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church (3405 S 118th St.) followed by a VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, November 23rd, 12 (noon), Mary Our Queen Catholic Church. INTERMENT: Mount Auburn Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Mary Our Queen Early Childhood Education and Youth Center.

We were glad that we were able to visit with Joan at her mom’s rosary. I’m sure her mom and dad wrapped their angelic arms around her tightly as she entered heaven.
    Our Sympathy,

    Ron and Jeff,
Our heart and our prayers remain with you. We love you all so much. Joan was truly an angel on earth. Her angel wings have flown her into heaven where she dances before our Lord and walks amongst the angels and saints.
