Joan R. Ostrand

OSTRAND, Joan Ruth Apr 18, 1948 – Feb 23, 2014 Joan Ruth Ostrand was born April 18, 1948 in Seargent, Nebraska to Paul and Frances Wagner. She passed away in her home in Omaha, Nebraska on February 23, 2014. Since her parents pastored churches all over Nebraska and Colorado, she grew up in the ministry in Oshkosh, Nebraska and Broken Bow, Nebraska. She later moved to Brush, Colorado, where she graduated from high school. She attended Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri before marrying David Ostrand. They lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where their son Karl was born. Later they moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where they lived for 25 years. In Virginia, Joan played a major role in running their furniture business, while also being an amazing wife and loving mother. One of her many outstanding qualities was her selfless love for and interest in others. Anyone who was ever around her couldn’t help but feel valued and encouraged. God used this trait to minister to many people…including neighbors, co-workers, international students, friends and family. She hosted countless meals in her home and considered it a joy to minister to others through her welcoming hospitality. Family was also a priority for Joan. She enjoyed hosting the entire family for Christmas holidays and summer vacation. These times were always filled with fun and great memories. Joan is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dave, their son Karl and his wife Julie, and their three girls – Jensen, Emerson and Adison. She is also survived by her sister Jeanette and husband Curt, their children, Kristin, David, and Sheree, and their families. Throughout this battle with cancer, Joan demonstrated her steady faith and trust in Jesus. Choosing never to complain, she took every opportunity to share her faith with those around her until the very end.
