John was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Ralph Jackson and brother, Larry.  He is survived by wife, Bert (Roberta) Jackson, son, Nick, daughter-in-law, Julie Poolman-Jackson, and grandson, Noah.

John graduated from Emporia State University and spent his career in the retail clothing business. He was owner of J. Benson, a department store in Topeka, before moving to Omaha with Bert in 1992 when she accepted an administrative position in Westside Community Schools. John greatly valued the association with Westside and found a family of friends among its administrators and teachers.  He also scheduled the district’s substitute teachers for several years.

John enjoyed watching Royals baseball and KU basketball (especially the 2022 NCAA championship game), and he was looking forward to more enjoyable Nebraska football next fall. He will be remembered for his devotion to his friends and family, his love of sports, and most especially, his sharp wit and quick one-liners.

    Nick –
Sorry to hear about your loss. While somewhat expected – it doesn’t mean it is easy. Hang in there and enjoy celebrating the memories and laughter with family.
