John A. Johnson
January 4, 1945 – September 23, 2021
John A. Johnson, aged 76, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2021, at his home in Tyler, Texas. John was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 4, 1945, to John and Vivian Johnson. He grew up in the family home along with his sisters, Beverly and Cynthia. He graduated from South High School in 1963, and during his high school years, met Mary Lankas. Over time, their relationship blossomed, and they were married on November 18, 1967. Their marriage was blessed with three children: a son, John, and two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie. After an Army enlistment and service in Vietnam, John and Mary moved to West Point, Illinois in 1973, where John farmed and founded a successful business—Arrow Seed Company. In 2008, they sold the business and retired to Osage Beach, Missouri. In 2012, John and Mary moved to their current home in Tyler, Texas.
John is survived by his wife, Mary; son, John (Susanne) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Jennifer (Jerry) Baird of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Sobel of Tyler, Texas; seven grandchildren: Nicholaus and Lauren Johnson; Ethan and Colin Baird; Maxwell, Harrison, and Jackson Sobel; his sisters, Beverly Pecka and Cynthia Naegele; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private Family Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: St. Robert Bellarmine Church; Bishop Gorman High School in Tyler, Texas; or the Notre Dame Sisters in Omaha, Nebraska. In remembrance of John, please go outside and appreciate the sun on your face. Plant something, watch it grow, and enjoy what it becomes.
