John D. Menke
April 19, 1945 – August 6, 2020
Survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy; children, Derek (Julie) Menke of Omaha and Kelly (Garrett) Coleman of Omaha; nine beloved grandchildren: Peytan, Callie, Rowan, Cody, Jaden, Courtney, Kacie, Carson, and Korey; and brother, Bruce, of Michigan. Preceded in death by parents, Betty and Francis Menke.
John grew up in Crete, Nebraska, attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and worked in group pensions at Mutual of Omaha and patient accounting at Nebraska Medical Center. He played tennis and loved to golf, as well as traveling with many trips and cruises to Europe, China, and throughout the United States.
Due to COVID-19 health risks, a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 15th at 10:30am, at Lincoln Memorial Park, 6800 S 14th Street in Lincoln, NE.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the John Menke Memorial FXTAS Research Fund at the UC Davis MIND Institute. Checks, made payable to UC Davis Foundation with John Menke Memorial FXTAS Research Fund written in the memo line, can be mailed to:

Kelly and family, my sincere condolences on the loss of your dad/grandpa. I feel like I knew him from all your wonderful family Facebook postings over the years. i know you all will greatly miss him.

I was sorry to see of John’s passing.I enjoyed getting to know John and you through my years of working with John in Group Pensions at Mutual of Omaha. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

A friend and schoolmate from Crete (along with Kathy and Bruce), a neighborhood friend and a student of John’s mother (“Mrs. Menke”) in may great classes and homeroom – Wonderful times and memories of a very good person and wonderful Crete family! Best to all of John’s family – celebrate his Life!!.
So sorry to hear of John’s passing, i have many great memories of time spent with John and Kathy, probably the best is when Mr.Kalkwarf and John rebuilt the Black car. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Chuck
I, too, never met your Dad Kelly, but I felt like I knew the love you all had for each other, through your wonderful Facebook posts. How wonderful your parents had 55 married years together! My thoughts and prayers are with you all…God Bless.

Derek, So very sad to hear the news about your dad. I remember the many times he came out to Tiburon to play…and make sure we were working! A great guy for sure. Our deepest sympathies.
