John E. Mayo

November 30, 1932 – June 14, 2023

John Mayo, referred to as “Papa John” by his great-grandchildren, took his first breath on November 30, 1932 in Oak Creek, Colorado and his last on June 14, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 90 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Mary F. Mayo; three children: Richard J. Mayo (Linda), Lawrence J. Mayo (Danielle), Michelle M. Mayo; five grandchildren: Brian R. Mayo (Claudine), Corrinne L. Olson (Kevin), Thomas J. Mayo, Brittany M. Burgett (Steven), and Luca J. Mayo; nine great-grandchildren: Ariane, Alexis, Samantha, Garrett, Zachary, Matthew, Isabella, Blake, Cameron. He is predeceased by his father, John A. Mayo, mother, Evaline Wilkinson, brother, Joseph Mayo.

John graduated from Omaha South High School in 1950. He worked for a time as a Surveyor in Montana before joining the United States Army in 1952. He was trained in the Army Engineering School as a Combat Construction Specialist and served as a Construction Surveyor. He was married to Mary Francis DeGeorge on July 10, 1954 at St. Patrick’s Church, Omaha. After his discharge from the Army he and Mary settled in Omaha to raise a family. He was a Maintenance Mechanic the majority of his working life for Armour & Company and Omaha Steaks International.

In his younger years he was a youth baseball coach and loved to water ski and play pinochle. In his later years he was a huge fan of Nebraska football and loved to watch game shows and westerns.

He had the ability to talk with anyone and had many friends, new and old. He will be remembered and missed.

VISITATION: Thursday, June 22, 2023, 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel with 7pm VIGIL SERVICE.  PRIVATE INTERMENT.  Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association.

    We were so saddened to hear of jons passing. So.many memories of living and growing up with the Mayo family. The many summers at Desoto Bend. Our thoughts prayers are with you. Cherish the wonderful memories of John as we will. Heaven will not be the same with dad and John.thete together. God be with you. Love Debbie TomHa Harral
