John E. “Pete” Hill

John E. “Pete” Hill

August 2, 1930 – February 18, 2022

John Edward “Pete” Hill was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Sylvia; brother, William; sister, Sandra.  Survived by LaRue, his wife of 69 years; children: Maureen Anderl (Rich), Lauren Floersch (Steve), Pete Hill (Jean), Albert Hill (Tammy), Jim Hill (Traci Jenkins), Pat Hill (Kami Bruner) and Holly Hill (Gregg Wurtz); sister, Sharon Witt.

Pete graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1948.  He followed his father, Bob, into the trucking business.  Pete worked at Union Freightways, Boss Truck Lines LLC, and managed Sioux Transportation.

Pete formed Hill Transportation in 1973 and together with his four sons began Hill Brothers Transportation in 1986.  He served his country in the Nebraska National Guard. Pete was a longtime Little League coach, volunteer for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Sunday School teacher.  His love for children and education is evident in his support for the Joe York Scholarship at Plattsmouth High School and the Akulua Charter School in Molokai, Hawaii.

Pete would say his greatest accomplishment is his family.  His sense of humor and “Pop-isms” will be greatly missed by his 7 children, 24 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life Service: Saturday, May 7, 2022, 11:00 a.m., Peace Presbyterian Church, 333 S. 204th St., Omaha, Nebraska. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Pete and his wife Lu were long time friends…..some of the first folks we met when we moved to Omaha in 1971. Both were first class people. Many good times together….generous to a fault. My late wife Karen and I thought the world of Pete & Lu.. My sincere condolences.

When Grampy Hill died, Uncle Pete was like a new grandfather to me. When my Dad died, he helped fill that void too. He was always very kind, and funny as hell. Condolences to Aunt Lu and all the kids. Love from all of us in Michigan! Nephew Bill
