John Mountjoy, age 54, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on September 21, 2022.

John was born in Omaha and attended St. Robert Bellarmine grade school.  In 1986 he graduated from Creighton Prep, where he played soccer; throughout his years in high school he developed life-long friendships lasting three decades.  John attended Kansas University and graduated in 1990. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he returned to Omaha to embark on a career in commercial real estate both as a broker and a developer.  Following ten years at Dial Companies, he broke off as one of three founding partners of CFM REALTY,  (Carter, Fangman, Mountjoy).

John was dedicated to all of his projects in city development and had a special love for the history of Omaha’s architecture, development, and design.

Even though John was the youngest of five children, he was a natural born caretaker and organizer. Sunday night dinner at his mother’s home was a long standing tradition that he prioritized and organized for the last 30 years with his daughters and family. As a father, John was devoted to his daughters no matter what age or stage of their lives. He made sure they would have wonderful lasting memories, from travel to beaches, making snow angels in the yard, helping them on their first ski slope runs, and creating haunted houses for their annual Halloween parties that became a long standing tradition.

John supported each aspect of his daughters’ lives both in and out of school. His presence was a constant in all their activities, including summer swim meets, club soccer, and volleyball tournaments through college volleyball and all their high school tennis matches in between.  John made these events even more meaningful for his daughters and family by planning dinners or excursions before and after the games and regularly included as many of their friends and teammates as possible.

John was an avid traveler with friends and family.  He was always open to new adventures, whether it be taking his girls to amusement parks, or planning river rafting trips in Colorado, or vacationing in Mexico with his family.  John followed his heart in his personal life, but still maintained a committed role in his work while taking the time to create a welcoming home perfect for Holiday celebrations and family events. He will be remembered and  greatly missed as a dedicated father, a loving son, brother and husband.

John is survived by his three daughters through his marriage to Sheila (Reilly) Mountjoy: Joslyn “Josie” (23), Claire (23), and Mischa (20); his husband, Andy Brouwer; his mother, Darlene Mountjoy; his siblings: Frank Mountjoy, Chris Mountjoy, and Michelle Curtis (Miki); numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Frank Mountjoy, Sr. and his brother, Patrick Mountjoy.
