John P. Dugan
January 27, 1955 – March 25, 2025
After a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, John passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born on January 27, 1955, to the late Donald and Marilyn (Tarrant) Dugan in Omaha, NE. He went home to eternal peace with our Lord on March 25, 2025.
Raised in Omaha and Blair, NE. John loved reminiscing on his childhood and the family train trips to Oregon, duck hunting trips with his dad and Grandpa Art Tarrant, the large family gatherings on both sides of his parents’ families, and the great memories of the menagerie of pets he had, most especially his beloved dog, Rusty.
Growing up, John and his family moved around a great deal, as his immediate and extended family members worked together in building new homes every few years. Those years of home building influenced John and gave him a great appreciation for the construction trade. It led to his career choices and the beautiful homes he built for his own family.
It was at two of the homes that John’s family built in Florence that John and Linda first met and how their journey together began.
John graduated from Blair High School in 1973. Upon graduation, John worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha as an Electrician. He later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduating with a Construction Engineering degree. He worked numerous years as a Construction Estimator and later acquired his Electrical Contractor license starting his own successful electrical contracting business. In 2015, John retired and moved to the country, where he built his dream home in the hills just outside of Fort Calhoun, NE.
John married Linda (Allen) Dugan, and their union brought forth two sons: Allen and Ethan. In his later years, John relished his role as a grandfather, showering love and attention on his beloved grandchildren: Brandon (his Little Man) and Sophia (his Princess) and his daughter-in-law Tasha.
John enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states and several U.S. territories. He also traveled to numerous countries throughout the world. John hiked the ruins of Peru with his best friend, John Smith; he lifted pints with his sons in several pubs in Ireland; and with his wife by his side, John traversed one end of the earth to the other (Denali to Antarctica) and numerous countries in between throughout Europe, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. John loved every place he and Linda visited and all the amazing experiences they shared on their many wonderful journeys together or with their sons on family vacations. He also relished his annual trips with his grandchildren to amusement parks and warm sunny beaches.
John was a lifelong, devoted Husker fan and shared that love with his family. He found joy in gardening, woodworking, smoking meats, swim parties that included his famous barbecuing skills, reading, fishing, playing catch with ‘Shannon’ his beloved Red & White Irish Setter, and hanging out with his lifelong friend John Smith.
John was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John was a role model of courage and perseverance during his cancer battle; and his positive attitude carried him through the challenges of his cancer journey. He inspired us all with his humor, strength, humility, bravery and his unwavering faith in God’s heavenly kingdom.
That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much. – Robert Louise Stevenson
John’s life was extremely well lived. He laughed often with a rich and beautiful laugh; and he loved deeply and was loved back wholeheartedly.
John was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years Linda Dugan, his sons Allen Dugan and Ethan (Tasha) Dugan, grandchildren Brandon Dugan and Sophia Dugan, his dear friend John (Mateel) Smith, brother Michael Dugan, and numerous other family and friends.
