I don’t know what made me think of Jack today, but I looked him up and was very sad to learn of his passing here. Jack hired me 30 years ago as a young college grad to help him with his Rent A Computer business. I was working at a hotel in downtown Des Moines where he would stay on trips and he took a chance on me. We opened the Cedar Rapids office and then I lived in Lincoln to run the shop there. Jack was an incredible mentor and always had a great outlook. He could make me laugh like no other, he introduced me to Slap Shot, and I can still see him laughing. Some of my favorite memories were when he’d say “I’m going to take you to the Tam O’ Shanter and buy you a steak as big as your head.” He did, and listening to his stories were some of the greatest times in my younger life. You always think you’ll have time to reconnect and catch up. Don’t wait for those times. Rest easy Jack. My thoughts of peace to Rita, Dana, and Alex.
