Jon Michael Jennings

Jon Michael Jennings

January 25, 1942 – April 20, 2025

Jon Michael Jennings was born on January 25, 1942, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Joseph and Evelyn Jennings.  He died on April 20, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jon served in the U.S. Navy as a radar repairman from 1961 to 1965, reaching the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

For his professional career, he spent 32 years (sorry, 32 and a half years thanks to his being on the front lines of the global crisis that was…then wasn’t, Y2K) in technical support and support management at IBM.

He was an avid reader of history and current events and was always up for a good political debate.  He also loved to cook.  From holiday feasts to weekday gourmet meals and the legendary Christmas candies, we’ll all be a little thinner with him gone.  He was a train enthusiast who often defaulted to trains as a key element in any interior design.  Throughout his 83 years, he passionately loved Cornhusker football and did his part to keep the sellout streak alive.  Go Big Red!  In the late eighties, he even got to realize a lifelong dream of being in a rock and roll band.  We salute you!

As a father, he taught his kids to never quit and was always willing to share knowledge in response to the silliest of questions.  As a husband of over 57 years, he remained faithful until the end.  He passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

Jon is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Jeffrey Jennings (Jennifer) and Nichole Cosgrove (Stephen); his grandchildren: Chelsie, Oliver, and Alex; his “adopted” German granddaughter, Alexandra; his great-grandson Riley; and his brother, Jim Jennings (Pat Zalensky).  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathie Jennings and Pat Teer (Dave) and by his parents.

VISITATION begins on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the West Center Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m.

Burial with military honors will be at Omaha National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.  Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the charity of their choosing.
