Joseph D. Caniglia, Sr.

Joseph D. Caniglia, Sr.

April 22, 1966 – June 23, 2018

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, graduated from South High School, and resided in Colon, Nebraska.

His love was to laugh, joke and have fun, and was part of his daily life.  His distinctive laugh with family and friends at his side was always followed with God Bless as his parting phrase.  His second love to his wife, children, family and friends was his motorcycle and his many adventures and travels to South Dakota.

He left with many and sometimes embellished stories behind for his family and friends to remember him, and to laugh along, but most of all he left us all knowing he lived his life to the fullest and will be remembered by all.  Although he left us suddenly and too soon, he followed his dreams to the spirits.

He is preceded in death by two brothers that died shortly after birth; grandparents, Joseph and Mary Caniglia, Edward and Evelyn Smejkal; nephew, Richard “Smokey” Lessert; father-in-law, Raymond Iwan; sister-in-law, Betty Iwan, along with nephew, Jeffie Iwan.

Survived by beloved wife, Annette; children: Joseph D., Jr. (Angelina), Dakota, Chyanne (Kirk) and CJ; grandchildren: Kierstyn, Kayden, Keira, and Joseph D. III; parents, Joseph and Loretta (Larri) Caniglia; mother-in-law, Christine Iwan; siblings: Kim Cherek (Joe Tholt), John, Tom, Theresa Lessert (Jerry), Patti Graham (Richard), and Lynda Turnquist (Scott); sisters-in-law: Marcia Dredla (Larry), Jane Wells (Kevin), and Rose Barcal (DJ); brother-in-law, Ray Iwan (Rebecca). Also survived by former wife, Kathy Sutton Caniglia; aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews; even more cousins, hundreds of good friends, thousands of stories, and a million wonderful memories.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 26th from 3pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family! God Bless!

My deepest sympathy to the Caniglia family. Joey grew up with my brother Joe Plance and they were the best of childhood friends. Lots of cherished memories.
    He will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the many happy memories you shared together be a source of comfort to you in the days ahead. And may God’s promise to soon undo ‘all tears, pain and even death’ (Rev. 21:4) bring you hope as it has to me. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
