April 10, 1936 – April 28, 2022

Joseph James Coco, 86, who lived in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, April 28, 2022.

Joe was born on April 10, 1936, in Omaha, to Vincenzo Coco and Rose Marino.  He was the youngest of their eight children.  Joe married his wife, Shirley Ann Jacobs, on June 30, 1962, in Omaha and had four children.  He and Shirley owned a bakery in Council Bluffs for many years and enjoyed bringing up their children around the family business.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his father and mother; his sisters: Sarah, Louise, Sontha, and Lena; and his brothers, Sebastiano and Salvatore.

Joe is survived by his brother, Thomas; four children: Don (Jenny) Coco, Jim (Sarah) Coco, Dave (Jackie) Coco, and Rosanna (Marty) Pacha; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Wednesday, May 4th, 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church (654 S. 86th Street) with visitation starting at 9am.  Private Interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Sheltering Tree, P.O. Box 4990, Omaha, NE, 68104.  Sheltering Tree’s mission is to build and provide apartments for adults with developmental disabilities to empower them to live self-determined lives and help them become engaged in their community.  Sheltering Tree holds a special place in Joe’s life and the Coco Family because it has given one of Joe’s granddaughters a chance at independence and the ability to have her own apartment.

I have many good memories of working with Joe, and my parents, Subby & Connie Patania had many stories of times together. Joe even made my parents wedding cake. Thoughts and prayers sent from the Patania family.
