Joseph McCloskey
July 5, 1957 – July 13, 2025
Joseph “Joe” McCloskey of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home. At 68 years of age, Joe was a beloved husband, devoted father of two, and cherished grandfather of six.
Born on July 5, 1957, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Joe was the oldest of four children (Sean, Patrick, & Lisa). His parents, John “Boom Boom” and Marguerite “Nanny” moved Joe to the states as a child and eventually claimed Omaha as their permanent home. It was here he met, and later married the love of his life, Lurae. Together, they established a loving family built on a foundation of faith, determination, and purpose.
Joe served in the United States Army, stationed in Korea and Lakehurst Naval Air Base in New Jersey. Following his military service, he returned home to Omaha and started his family with Lurae. During these years, Joe enjoyed attending JD and Katie’s multitude of sporting events, leading the Cub Scouts, woodworking, rebuilding a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400, and taking on numerous home improvement projects. He was always there with a helping hand, a keen word of advice, or more likely, a witty sarcastic joke for a good laugh.
Joe absolutely adored his grandchildren and embraced his role as “Papa” to Marie, Max, Charlotte, Shannon, Luke, & Noah. He treasured their presence and loved them to no end. A man of quiet strength and stoic emotion, he would often find a way to humor the grandchildren with a good dad joke. Often, the same dad joke, over and over and over.
Joe is survived by Lurae, JD and his wife Kristy, Katie and her husband Nate, his grandchildren, his father and siblings, and countless family friends. He is preceded in death by his mother (2009). His presence and humor will be sorely missed, but we know his love (and humor) will live on.
Visitation: Thursday, July 17th, from 5-7pm at West Center Chapel.
Funeral: Friday, July 18th, 11AM at West Center Chapel.

So many great memories with Joe. We worked together for years at Mutual of Omaha. He was an awesome mentor, helping me navigate through our out of own trips to get offices up and running. He had a wonderful sense of humor with a sparkle of mischief. He was nothing but kind. Sorry that I hadn’t kept in touch for so long. May he rest in peace.
