Joseph R. Davenport
February 12, 1931 – December 7, 2021
Joseph Raymond Davenport, 90, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away on December 7, 2021 at his home.
Joe was born in Council Bluffs on February 12, 1931, son of the late William and Viola Davenport. He is survived by Ann, his loving wife of 58 years; his son, Michael (Julie); his three granddaughters: Alexa, Isabelle and Olivia Davenport; and his best friend and brother-in-law, Nick Calava. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James “Bud” and William, as well as his sister, Norma Kidwell.
Joe served in the United States Army fighting in the Korean War. He earned an honorable discharge after rising to the rank of Sergeant. After returning from Korea, Joe worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha as a shop foreman for more than 30 years.
In Joe’s free time, he enjoyed wood-working and remodeling projects. He especially took pride in making rocking horses and cradles for each of his granddaughters as well as for friends. Joe also enjoyed watching college football with his son, Mike, cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Joe’s generous heart made him a friend to many.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, December 18th at 4pm at the West Center Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joe’s name to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha https://habitatomaha.org/donate/honor-memorial/
